Origami Clubs
Taxonomy Code: PS-8200.0550-620
Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in origami, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding in which representations of birds, flowers, insects, animals and other subjects are created. Activities may include lectures by people with origami expertise; demonstrations of basic folding techniques; and regular meetings at which members share information about current projects, enjoy the company of other origami enthusiasts and have time to work on their projects. Some origami clubs may also provide space for activities, arrange for discounts on materials, sponsor exhibits or sales of origami art pieces created by members, publish a newsletter or provide access to a library of resources about the craft. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.
