Taxonomy Code: TJ-1800.3300-600.82

Online technology tools such as del.icio.us that allow Internet users to tag their favorite websites with keywords and post them for others to see. Tags are labels or keywords that can be applied to just about anything on the Internet. Users register with a social bookmarking site which allows them to store bookmarks, add tags of their choice, and designate individual bookmarks as public or private. People can search for resources by keyword, person, or popularity and see the public bookmarks, tags, and classification schemes (termed "folksonomies") that users have created and saved. The sites typically provide a tool called a "bookmarklet" that sits on the individual’s browser toolbar. When they find a website they would like to share, they click on the icon and the bookmark is saved into the Web service.
