Auditors request information to confirm bank balances, contribution amounts, conditions and restrictions, contractual obligations and monies owed by the organization; review physical assets, journals and ledgers and board minutes to ensure that there have been adequate disclosures; select a sample of financial transactions to determine if there is proper documentation and if transactions were posted correctly to the books; interview key personnel to determine whether financial procedures were correctly followed; and write an opinion as to whether the financial statements, as a whole, give a fair representation of the organization's financial picture.
